Question
QUESTION: I have just recently moved my 22 gallon tall tank into my 65 gallon tank. I used all the live rock the sand (bought 15 pounds of new sand also) and i put my fish in (1 maroon clown and 5 chromis). I used the bio wheel filter that was in the 22 plus i have a fluval 404 in the 65 too. How long if any will the cycling process take. I also used ALL the water from the 22.
I also did something terribly wrong i went out and bought a wrasse and a jewell puffer. ALL are doing well. The move happend on thursday.

ANSWER: you shouldn't get too uch of a cycle as it is only really like doing a massive water change on the 22gal.

only probs i can see with your new purchases is the puffer will nip and eat corals and star fish, so it rules them out for you. depending on what wrasse you bought they are usually only a little boisterous and can grow very big.

only thing i will tell you to watch for is the puffer has a toxic slime coat, if its harassed or feels in danger it will shed it into your tank possibly poisoning your other fish.

QUESTION: thank you for the quick reply, what does uch mean?
DO i have too much filteration going on, or is that ok.
my real problem is the fact that i bought the wrass and the puffer maybe to soon. Are u saying that cycling process is ok?
IF a buy some more crushed coral will this start the cycling process all over? (what if it is used?)
what type of wrasse can go with my yellow wrass?
and what other fish could i stock my tank with?
will the puffer nip at a sebae aneomonie or bubble tip if i ourchase either for the maroon?
ANSWER: sorry i missed the m from much. you shouldnt get much of a cycle as you moved everything from your old tank.

to be honest i would say your tank is at its stock limit, you already have more fish in yours than i do in my 100UKgal.

i wouldn't say you are overfiltered just make sure your not using the conventional media in the canister. more coral sand wouldn't make any differance to the cycling process, how much liverock do you have? for your new tank you will need about 30Kg's to filter properly.

1 last quick tip, forget the anemone, they are really hard to keep alive. if you ditch the puffer you can get some sacros, the clown will host in them the same as a nenny. also get another clown they are best in pairs.

QUESTION: thanks again! what are sacros? If i ged rid of my 5 chromis can i then add a few more fish?
there is alot of free space in there.
I am using a sponge and a carbon in the bio wheel. The bio wheels broke so it basically running with out them. just a spong in one side and carbon in the other. BARE WITH ME I AM NEW TO THIS!
WHAT ABOUT NITRASORB is this good?
ANSWER: sacrophyton corals or todies will be ok for your clowns to host in. the thing is you won't be able to have any corals with that puffer, it will just chew them to bits.

do you have a skimmer? pretty essential bit of kit in my opinion. nitrasorb and phosban should be run in your canister filter, changed every 8 weeks or so.

without the required ammount of liverock in your tank there is no way the bioload of all the fish you want will be able to be filtered and broken down properly, liverock is the best filter you can buy and worth every expensive penny.

QUESTION: yes we have a skimmer, I found  person who has base rock for cheap, is this rock okay to use?  we have three pink tip anemones that my puffer isn't nipping at. so your saying if we load up the tank with more rock we can add more fish? cause if thats the cause we'll so just that. In your opinion is it okay to be using carbon and foam in the filter for salt water? because a few of our lfs's all have different answers. Is it too soon to add a maroon clown and or a yellow tang?

Answer
no i didn't mean the more rock you have the more fish you can have, your tank is already stocked to its limit in my opinion. even if you add more base rock it will still take 8-12 months before its live.

as far as filters go all i use is carbon, liverock rubble and liverock in my tank, i just make sure i have plenty of flow through the rocks.

also a yellow tang will quickly outgrow your tank, they need at least 150UKgal tank to be happy. if they dont have enough room they can get aggressive
