What do i need to turn my 55 gallon fresh water tank into a salt water tank? How much would you say it would cost for everything?

You need a lot of things.

But that depends what kind of saltwater tank you want.

There are three kinds of Saltwater tanks.
Fish-only (the cheapest, but harder for beginners)
FOWLR (slightly more expensive, but the easiest and most recommended option)
Reef (The hardest and most expensive, but the nicest looking)

I think we can scratch fish-only and reef right off for someone just starting out.

I recommend that you join a local reef forum, or even the forum mentioned in my sig. There are just too many things that need to be said and I can not fit them all in this reply. Saltwater is much ore complicated than freshwater.

I can tell you that it will easily cost $1000-$2000 for a FOWLR. And reefs can cost as much as $4000+.
