Apatasia?

Hello Bill,
I recently asked you a question about green hair algae, your advice was great, no more algae; thanks.
My new problem is what appear to be apatasia, or rose glass anenomes!!! I have a yellow polyp, and a trumpet coral, (which seem very healthy)that I bought from the same shop approx 7 weeks ago. I noticed the growth of what I thought were tube anenomes.  When closed, they are a purplish colour, but when open, transparent!! The yellow polyp seems to have the anenome threaded right through it, whereas it seems to be  'branching' from the base of the trumpet.
I have read that it is possible to buy a commercially prepared product to kill them. My worry however, is , if I put something in the tank, will it affect my fish, inverts and other corals?
Should I ideally have a quarantine tank in order to deal with the problem, or just take out the coral :-(, and call it dealt with.
Would value your opinion and advice again. All parameters are good too.

The forum is NEW and is LACKING in members, but hopefully as more and more memberes sign up, and join us in the 'chatroom', it will get busier.  IT will be a non profit effort, to hopefully promote open discussions on all things, equipments, food, support, etc...

You can get that most anywhere, grocery stores, walmart,etc... in the canning section...

Dont try to learn it all in the first reading... I suggest reading that article, kind of quickly... dont bother learning... then go back and maybe search and look up a couple things that you might think is relevent, then go back re-read that article again.  In fact, BOOKMARK IT... And bookmark the chemistry calculator that you read about on that page...

They are UBER impoortant to know, although many dont really read it and or understand it... But, let me just say, that there is a way to arrive at a definitive amount of suppliments.  You dont have to guess on how much calcium to add, or how much Alkalinity to add


ALSO, and probably more important to most people... You dont have to buy those over priced suppliment bottles at the lfs...  YOu can get the suppliments fromthe grocery store, hardware stores and/or pool mainenance store...

and instead of paying $9,95 or $19.99 for a small bottle of suppliment, you can buy the raw chemicals and add your own water for pennies instead of dollars...

(chemicals = sodium bicarbonate = cmon now... you know this one....  sodium bicarbonate = baking soda)

the other chemical is calcium cloride... = road deicer)



I know chemistry sucks for everyone, but this is your chance to show kids all over, that yes, you may use the junk they teach you in high school in real life

also, after about six months of dosing and or monitoring for two part, you will develope an accuity after a while, you wont nned the chemistry lessons again, and it will become automatic and shortly after that you may forget a bunch that you just learned again,,, anyways, sorry if this is a duplicat, or for the delay, if you ahvent gotten the reply by now


Commercial products are ok to use in the tank... That is what they are designed to do, BUT, if you have a lot, and i mean a lot of aptasia, I would probaly attack a section at a time...

You can also use kalkwasser paste.  I dont use it as paste, but really rich / milk like..

I use a hypo needle and will punture the aptasia and inject a small amount... the aptasia will close up instantly and wihtin a day be gone... If for soem reason you dont get it all, you can reinject the next day..

And kalkwasser is good for the tank...

as for QT.. hmm, you couldnt possible qt every coral and fish, and would need multiple qt tanks/setups

I would suggest a QT for your fish, and that way, it will make you buy fish , slowly.. to let the last fish go thru QT before you put another one in
