Question
Hi tyler,
I am a beginner for saltwater, but not new to this hobby. I have 2 fresh water tanks running succesfully for past 2 years.so, i have started an 40 gallon saltwater setup.running sucessfully for past 2 weeks.I introduced the fishes 3 days back.

For filtration i use :
1 protein skimmer
1 powerhead connected to UGF.
1 power filter
1 22w white light.

Fishes:
2 blue damsels.
1 damsel
1 three spot black fish
1 saddle back clown fish
1 carpet anemone(accepts shrimp).

my questions:

1. is this filteration enough or should i use an UV light?
2. when bringing home the clown fish its tail got bitten, i dont know how. will the tail grow back?
3. can i add any more fish/invert to this setup? if yes, kindly suggest a good hardy fish.
4. how long should i keep the light on during the day.
5. how many times should i feed the anemone.

Thanks in advance.

Answer
Hey Sivapratap

To answer your questions in order-

1. if you have live rock, you dont need a filter. if you have no live rock, i would get another power filter. UV's are not necessarily and kill more good than bad in saltwater

2. yep, it should grow back. sometimes it wont on older fish, but on younger fish it usually repairs

3. you can add hermit crabs and snails, generally the rule is 1 hermit crab per gallon of water, and 1 snail per 2 gallons of water. these guys are good cleaners

4. 10 hours with fluorescents, 8-10 hours with power compacts, 6-8 with metal halide lights

5. feed him a few chunks of food every 2-3 days

just a note- anemones need high light, as in 8-10 watts per gallon of lighting, to prevent him from dying, i would upgrade to a 150w metal halide. in low lighting, he will slowly die. metal halides are cheap on ebay, and if you do go for one a 150w will do if you put it directly over him

any follow ups, feel free to ask!
