Nano tank lighting

Question
Hello!

I am setting up a 20H gallon nano reef.

I have decided on the stocking, the inverts, the powerheads, and all the corals I want. But I have not yet settled on lighting.

I would like to be able to keep zoas, palythoa, mushrooms, ricordea, green star polyps, and possibly pulsing xenia.

My question is, would 65 watts of PowerCompact lighting be enough in a 20 gallon tank for these corals?

Answer
HI Jeff. If I were you I would go with a compact light fixture that contains two 65 watt bulbs instated of just one. Your tank is 24 inches right? Current and Coralife both make a very nice lighting fixture(both retail for under $200) for a 24 inch tank that both contain two bulbs. Your tank is a high and the light will have to penetrate through a little more water to reach your corals. In my opinion either of these lights would be a better choice. Zoanthids, although can tolerate a wide variety of conditions, do best when kept under bright illumination. The same goes for the ricordea mushrooms and star polyps. All of the corals you are looking at can go in lower lighting conditions however they all(besides mushrooms) do best under bright illumination. If you end up getting any xenia and have any questions let me know. It is my specialty!
