Question
Hi-

I have a salt tank 26 gal and am trying to set up again after
being down for a year. I was going to add live rock this
time, but the guy at the store said if wouldn't help and that
the filter should be replaced with a wet-dry. Says the fluval
is no good. Is this true?

Thx!!

Answer
Michael,
Just like anything in the world, everybody has an opinion.  It's up to you to decide who's opinion you should trust.

26 gallon reef tank... Your live rock and sand should provide enough biological filtration for the few fish you will be able to keep in there.  The Fluval is okay for mechanical and chemical filtration as well as water circulation.  Just be sure to keep up with the monthly maintenance on that filter.  In addition to that I would suggest using a protein skimmer like the CPR Bak-Pak 2 for organic removal and general water quality.

We stock the CPR Bak-Pak in our online catalog if you would like additional information or to order one.

Best of luck with your aquarium.
