Question
I have a 1000X600X500 tank that has been running now for 3 weeks. There are no fish in it yet, only 6 snails-the ones with th haed black shells. What are the tiny white particle swimming around in the water? I doubt it's baby snails. I have a wet and dry too, everything is running great. The water in the tank is filtered sea water that I bought from the aquarium. Please help. What must I do?

Answer
Hi Gini,

This must be a very nice, extremely large custom built aquarium, as I can tell from the measurements you've given.

You stated 1000 inches X 600 inches X 500 inches (L x W x H) that would be approximately 83 feet by 50 feet by 41 feet. A very nice, extremely large tank, giving you many options as to what you can put in it.

Are you considering rays or other large species of marine life? Is this aquarium in your home, college, or public aquarium facility?

Regarding the tiny white particles that you are seeing in your water, this is normal, as your aquarium water is still acclimating, ultimately it's trying to balance itself in regards to it's biological processes and nitrification.

You should definitely wait at least another month or so before adding any marine life to this size tank. Make sure to test all water parameters before adding any marine life.

I'd love to hear more about your aquarium, you must have something really nice planned for it. Write me back when you have a moment.

You will have to wait 24 hours before writing me back.

Best Regards,
Dave
