QuestionHi Chris, I have a small (about 1 in. long) Ryukin Goldfish. Just recently I've noticed VERY small red spots on each side of its belly. They seem like they are showing through the skin, not on it. They aren't sticking out at all and for the most part the fish seems healthy and its eating habits are great, any idea what it could be? and if you do know PLEASE tell me if it is contagious because I do have other goldfish in the tank, thanks, --- Cote
AnswerHi Cote;
Goldfish often change color many times throughout their lives. It may be just a natural color change, but watch him for signs of lethargy or loss of appetite. Redness can indicate an internal bacterial infection.
Check the water chemistry to be sure all is okay there. Goldfish are messy guys that can have water trouble very easily and it can lead to infections. A weekly 25% water change can make a big difference in their health and vitality.
