Question
I have some experience in freshwater communities, with stable community fish.  I set up a 25 gallon and so far have had much success with my three Exodon's and redtailed catfish.  However, i just set up another freshwater tank, using beachsand as a base, rocks as decor, a large piece of wood, and a coral skeleton.  My question is this, will dead coral combined with true beach sand harm fish that might live there?  Is this a concern?  and Are there certain fish that might be heartier in these conditions?

Answer
The fish specialist at my job uses cleaned play sand from Home Depot in his tank and it has never been a problem he says it looks awesome as well. As long as you throughly cleaned the sand and coral there should be no problem. Any fish can live in the sand though it makes me nervous with algae eaters that they might inhale the sand...but the fish specialist says he has no problem with that.  You should be ok moving to sand I don't know if there are any fish that would do better than others.
