Question
I have a tank that has a terrible smell to it , also the inside you can't even see the only fish i have the water is so cloudy . What is it and how should i treat it ? I don't want this fish to die!

Answer
It is likely algae. Algae can cause a smell and causes cloudy water. You sould get an algae treatment that removes excess algae. Also, you will likely need to clean your tank. Syphon the gravel and clean the filter and replace the filter cartridge. Wipe down all surfaces to remove the excess algae and do a large water change. Be sure to add the algae treatment once you have cleaned and not before you clean. The algae treatment will probably make your tank look clearer if you treat without cleaning but the algae problem will just come back if you do not maintain the tank first. Also, once it is clean and starting to clear up be sure to keep a schedule for cleaning. Clean your filter once a month and replace the cartridge every three weeks or as needed. Also, do a 15-20% water change every three or four weeks. These steps should help keep the tank clean. If you see a film developing on the gravel, walls, or decor be sure to clean it. I hope this helps.
