Question
Hi, I have just purchased a Juwel Rekord 120L aquarium, and I was wondering how I can add streams of bubbles to the tank. I would appreciate a list of equipment i would need to purchase in order to achieve this.

Also, I currently own the following fish;
1 betta
3 neon tetra (1 regular, 2 wild green)
3 glowlight tetra
2 platty
2 honey gourami
5 mountain minnow
2 japonica shrimp

I was wondering if i would have space to adda any more fish, and if so, could you please give me some suggestions?

Thanks a lot for your time, and I am eagerly awaiting your response!

Answer
Hi Anna
According to my conversion calculator, your tank is the equivalent of about 31 US gallons(sorry, easier for me to work with that way :)  First I want to ask you, you said you just purchased the tank.  How long ago?  Are you familiar with cycling a fish tank?  Because if not, you're going to have some problems with a lot of those fish not making it.

Basically in a nutshell, what happens during the cycle process, fish put out ammonia, ammonia gets converted to nitrites, and then nitrtes get converted to nitrates.  Now, ammonia and nitrites are toxic to fish at any levels, and can kill fish-especially like a lot of the sensitive ones you have.  Here's a link that explains the whole cycle process a lot better then what I can, has several articles on the page that are good as well about ammonia and nitrite poisoning, need to copy and paste:

As far as adding new fish at this time, assuming that you haven't cycled your tank, I would say no, don't add any more fish.  In fact, I would probably suggest returning all of them except the platies, and giving that store a lot of grief.  If they knew you had a brand new tank just set up-they should not have sold you any of those fish and especially the shrimp.  The platies are probably the only ones that may make it through a cycle process, but that's iffy as well.  I'm sorry, I know you didn't ask for that info, but like I said, if they knew it was a new tank-then they're just out to get money from you which really irritates me..... If I'm wrong on all this, and you did use another source to cycle your tank-let me know.  Let me know either way, because there are ways you can cut down on the cycle process significantly.

As for what you need for the bubbles.  If you want a wall of bubbles, it's a long wand type thing, need to measure your tank first to see what size you want.  You'll need an air pump, probably a smaller one would work, and some airline tubing/plastic tubing.  Most pet stores sell those all together in the same section of the store.  That should be it, if you're only running one bubble wall/curtain.

Again, let me know if I'm way off on that whole cycling issue.  Hopefully I am wrong lol.
