Needle Fish Stopped eating

Question
Hi,
My needle fish has stopped eating. He still appears healthy, although I fear the lack of food will catch up to it. It's been nearly a week since it has eaten. The principal diet has been feeder goldfish and red minnows. It used to eat 1 fish a day or two days at most.
Nothing has changed with its environment. It lives in a 55 gal. tank with; 1 6" kissing fish, 2 2" angel fish, 1 8" gobie dragon fish, 1 calico moor, and 2 small tiger barbs.

Answer
Hi Tom,
We can't be exactly sure. Have you tried worms like Bloodworms, earthworms, or Mysis Shrimp ect. You can sometimes use the tweezer trick by putting the food in the tweezers and making the food twitch like live food. You could even try crickets and Mealworms from the petstore.

Sometimes fish do on fasting periods and its always possible the gar might be bored with the feeders. As always, just as a precaution its best to check the water quality and make sure all is well in terms of ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate.

Feeder fish aren't always the best diet for predatory fish. They are constantly plagued with disease and can make your gar sick. Switching him to frozen foods or raising your own feeder fish would be much wiser.

I hope this helps and best of luck!
Karen~
