Question
I've read that putting aquarium salt in a freshwater tank helps fish.  I was wondering, what exactly are the benefits of putting salt in a freshwater tank?  Also, are there any species of fish that will have a negative reaction to aquarium salt in the tank?  Thanks in advance.

Answer
Clyde,
salt is and has been used as a general cure for a very long time.
It is still used today as if you look at alot of the cures out there they are salt based.
Yes there are fish that will be harmed by salt but at the level you are adding it is pretty much a nonissue.
Discus, rams, some tetras etc are sensitive but again, at the level you are using it a non issue.
It also acts as a preventative as well.
