standard queston?

I was wondering about the male to female ratio for a 55 gallon tank (all babies right now) i have 9 fish and 2 for shure are males,im debating if my lab is a male. all fish are mbuna african chiclids. i want to know also if i should buy a few more? and if so how many? and i wanted to buy a dominat male peacock....

Hi Hillary:  usually the ratio for most fish is three females to one male... and with cichlids a range of 3:1 up to 1:1 is ok.  I would not add anymore fish to your tank because when the ones you have grow up... that tank is going to be almost too small... plus if you end up with breeding pairs... they become very territorial and super aggressive...  dave
