Question
I have a 110 gallon tank 2 eheim 2028,s and 2 # 5 sponge filters on a airpod 100 and a rena 300, massive pieces of mapani wood, 160 lbs of estes coated gravel  with 4 54 watt lights 2 10,000k and 2 acinic.
Im doing water changes of 10 percent a day siphoning gravel daily, useing lakewater thats passed through my in home treatment center, uv lighting the whole kit and kaboodle.
I have no problem cleaning the glass, the gravel but I do not want a gooey build up on the wood.
I have 5 Super Blue Angels 12 cm and 10 blue knight by violet reflection cross 10 cm, 15 Discus in all.
I am wondering will they keep my wood looking crisp and clean or will I have to have something like a cory to assist me?
I eventually want a planted tank but know I still have much to learn, thanks, Eric

Answer
Hi Eric,

Cory cats will not eat algae or other unsightly organisms living on the driftwood and ornaments. A Plecostomus will. If you are concerned about build-up on the wood, you can get a Plecostomus. A Plecostomus will nicely complement your current aquarium, and will do well with your Discus fishes.  (Did you know - the term 'fishes' refers to more than one fish, from different species? Two fish from the same species is referred to as 'fish'.)

Plecostomus ingest part of the driftwood as its diet (it won't actually 'eat' it though, obviously,) and the abundance of driftwood in your aquarium would make it a paradise for a Pleco. Plecos come in many different varieties, with new ones being developed every year through careful selective breeding. A particularly attractive one would be the Zebra Pleco (L-46). Plecos are fairly easy fish to keep, and since you obviously have perfect water parameters, one (or two) would definitely go nicely with your current setup. They will eat algae, and you can feed it sinking algae wafers (and veggies, such as lettuce and zucchini (courgette).

Feel free to ask me again if you need another suggestion or if I missed something.

Your maintenance routine sounds perfect, and your setup seems great! Nice filtration and lighting - keep up the good work!
