Question
I have 4 sharks in a 85 gal tank. They sit on one side of the tank, sitting on each other. What could cause this? I hae had them for about a year and would like to know.

Answer
Hi Chris,

This is one of those odd behaviors fish often exhibit, each species for its own reason, often without any real, concrete reason for the behavior being given.  So, my answer is, "I don't know".

I assume this is a schooling behavior, something that these sharks must do in the wild.

It is probably a sign that they are very comfortable in your aquarium, communicating, behaving much like they would in the wild, and it sounds as if it might even be a pre-mating behavior, however, let's not assume that.

Maybe they use touch as a communication.  I know Elephant Nose and Knife fish do.

I hope this helps.

Happy holidays!
