Guppy Bullies

Question
A week ago we brought home 8 male guppies from the same store (2 blue, 2 fancy, 2 2-toned yellow/orange tail & 2 orange- I admit I don't know a whole lot about the specific names)- the 2-toned guppies were bullying one of the fancy tails- thinking there may be a problem with the fancy tail we took it back to the store and got a different fancy & a spotted guppy.  We introduced these to the tank and that same day the 2-toned guppies were bullying the new fancy.  We have not witnessed them picking on the other fancy or other fish- just this one and it's predecessor.  Is it just that they don't like the color?  This is my first time with a 10gal and 2+ fish- so I'm fearful that I will come home to a beaten&eaten fish one of these days.  What can we do to keep a peaceful tank? As cheesy as it is, I want all my fish to feel comfortable and at home.

Answer
hello Elizabeth.
males are always aggressive to one another, fancy tail get picked on more because of the colors and size of the tail.
you need 10 to 12 females so the males stop fighting.
they will reproduce but you can sell/bring the fry to the pet store.
on that note a 10 gallon is too small for 8 guppy.
1 inch per gallon is the way to go and since guppy grow to about 2-3inch long they need about a 24-30 gallon tank with the females.
if not just remove some and bring back to the store and bring home some females.
1male for 2-3 females. if you have less females than males they'll kill the females and some males and end up with only one fish by the end of the month.
have a good one!
