Question
i have a 55 gallon tank with 4 tiger barbs, 2 (small) bala sharks, and i recently bought a rainbow shark. the day after i put the rainbow shark in, he began jumping out of the water, into the filter. (i have a back hanging filter) i have a cover on the filter so its about half inch gap (where the water comes back out) for him to squirm into, bt he managed to do it twice. since then i've put tape over as much as i could but im worried he'll find his way back in. what would you suggest do about him doing it and WHY is he doing it??

Answer
Hi Kyle:  I would check your water chemistry especially your pH.  What is the temperature of your tank??? Some fish are jumpers and they jump because of fear... how big is the rainbow shark compared to the tiger barbs?  As for keeping him in the tank...  just cover it up as best you can... you can use tape and plastic wrap...let me know... I would suspect that if he is not being picked on he will calm down in a few days.... keep me posted... dave
