thank you so much for responding so soon to my question earlier and in response to your email i did not use any cleaning liquid i just used plain water and the fish i had in it before were a few very healthy 6 year old goldfish and so i know he did not get sick from that or any cleaning supplies. so thank you i again. do you have any ideas of what could be going on?

 Hmm... if he isn't being poisoned then that sort of disorientation could well be from a swim-bladder infection of some sort.  The bottom line is that it doesn't sound good. When a fish loses the ability to orient it is in real trouble.

 There are medications that claim to treat this sort of thing but I have had very little success with them.  Sorry.
