put a peice of wood in my fresh water fish tank

i found a peice of wood i really like it and would to and it into my fish tank but dont know how to go about it can you give me any information thank you

Hi Josh,
 I take it that you mean that you found a piece of driftwood or some such thing, i.e., not a piece of wood at a pet store?

 The trouble with using driftwood that you find is that it might have all sorts of things in and on it.  So, basically you are going to have to clean it very well, and then soak it for a long time (a few weeks at least) to get the stuff out of it. Even then, you can never be sure.  Personally, I don't use wood that I find -- I use only wood from pet stores that has been treated, but the choice is yours.
