neon behavior

Question
On the advice of another expert on this site, I got some neon's to go with my male beta. The beta ended up killing 1 of them and injuring another.

I took the beta out of the bigger tank and put him in a 1 gallon. The injured neon lost a eye and for awhile I didn't think he'd make it but has since started swimming around more and does eat. He/she seems to hide alot though and only comes out for little stretches at a time.

There is 1 more neon that is perfect. He didn't want the injured neon around at first but seems to accept it when he/she comes out. I went to the store yesterday to get more neons and they were out so I got 3 glofish and the healthy neon has taken to wanting to school with the glofish but can't keep up.

Any ideas?

Answer
Hi Michelle,
Hmmm... neons are pretty delicate.  I would never put them with a male betta.  Male bettas are highly territorial and that's why he attacked the neon.

Neons, like many tetras, are schooling fish and like to live in groups, the larger the better.  Bettas are completely the opposite, they don't want to be around any other fish.
