Question
Hi,
I have my Beta for 5 months about 1 month ago I added a shell and a plant (the approved kind)...Change water 1 X every 2 weeks...with distilled water and the drops...feed him flakes...all was well until I noticed him top fin half gone...so I cut back the roots on the plant...Now I just noticed his bottom fin looks like its about to fall off...what is happing...I just feel so bad...He is eating and swimming around fine...Thanks
K

Answer
Hi Kristina;

He may be catching his fins on the plant. It may also be that the shell is causing the pH to rise too high. You might try removing them for awhile to see if he gets better.

Use regular tap water and add water conditioner instead of using distilled water. Distillation removes minerals and trace elements that fish need for long term health.

Followups welcome
