Fin Rot & Gill Disease

Question
Kyle

I have two fantailed goldfish and one bottom feeder.  The larger of my goldfish has the gill disease.  One side of his gills are very red.  I have tried all kinds of medication from the pet store and it does not seem to get any better.  My smaller goldfish has fin rot, bascially his tail is only two small strands left.  There too, all the medications from the store have not worked.  I read about putting them in a different take with no rocks and stuff, but do I need a 10 gallon tank?  Any other suggestions to help make my fish better would be great.
Thanks
Crystal

Answer
Hi Crystal,
Yes the best thing to do would probably be to put them both in a 10 gallon tank and treat them in there. The tank you have them in now may be the reason they have such diseases. The water may not be well acclimated, pH could be too high, there are dozens of reasons for the problems your having. But yes i would put them in a "Fishy Hospital Tank" with nothing in it to help get rid if the diseases. (NOTE: Still Treat Them With The Meds. In The Fishy Hospital). Then while they are being treated in the fishy hospital tank i would CLEAN THE HECK OUT OF THE OTHER TANK! Though you should probably take out only  3/4's of the water. Then acclimate the tank again and see how the fish do inside it.
Hope This Helps
Kyle
