Answer
Hi,
Firstly, I recommend you join

as it is a very friendly, reliable website.
Fishkeeping is not as easy as a lot of people think it is.
Bettas cannot live in a bowl, so make sure he has a tank bigger than 5 UK Gallons.
He also needs a filter, although not very strong, and a heater. They like their tank water to be around 28C.
I also recommend highly that you buy test kits for nitrite, ammonia and nitrate. A tank needs to be cycled before fish go in, but you should just monitor the water stats. Ammonia and nitrite both need to be 0.0, even 0.1 is harmful. Do 30 percent water changes every couple of days to get it down.
Never to 100 percent water changes. The fish should not ever come out of the tank.
The nitrate levels should be below 20ppm. If it is above that use live plants to help lower it.
Feed him a variety of flake food, bloodworm, brineshrimp, daphnnia, as well as cucumber and shelled and boiled peas. Bettas will usually not eat pellets, as they are for bottom feeding fish.
If you have any more questions, just ask.
Good luck,
Kathryn
