Betta Fish Fin Loss

Question
My 2 1/2 year old betta has lost his top fin - it is completely gone.  Now he has a 1/4 inch gash that is wide open, white & fuzzy.  He is still eating but not swimming around much.  If he won't survive this, is he in any pain?  What do I do?

Answer
Hi Sharon,
Treat him with "Tetracycline"  Follow the instructions on the package, and be careful not to overdose.  When fin, and tail rot is caught in time, fish survive.  The fact that he is still eating is a good sign.  Treat him quickly.  Change is water before treating him.  The cause to fin, and tail rot is mostly due to poor water conditions.  Change his water completely.
I hope the little guys pulls through.
