Jack Demsey and Parrot Fish

Hi..we have a 4 1/2 inch parrot fish and a 5 1/2 to 6 inch jack demsey. Jack always follows her/him around (like friends). They stick by each other all the time. If the other convicts are bothering her (parrot fish), he (jack) defends her. Is this normal behavior for these type of fish?

  That is hard to say. It could be that the parrot cichlid and the Jack Dempsey are forming a pair, likely because there is no proper mate for each of them.
