Question
I got a new, three gallon fish tank for my birthday all my fish are dead but two I had six fish to start with. They're guppies and I'm learning about this nitrogen cycle process and I want to know what do I have to do? Do I just let nature take its course and wait? Also, once I change the water does the nitrogen cycling process start all over again? Or how should I go about changing my fish's water?

Answer
Hi Jessica,

Nitrogen must cycle 2 weeks before adding fish.

Your fish are overcrowded.  1" of fish per gallon.  3 gallons, I would not have more than 2 guppies.

Change water every 2 weeks.  25%.

Good luck.

PS-
I got this in the fish questions pool today.  It must have been there awhile, referred to other experts by the original expert you chose.  Please do not hold me responsible because it's taken so long to answer.  I just got it today, and was on it soon as it arrived. :)  I hope my answer is helpful for you, and in advance, if there is any need for a followup, please feel free to ask.
