2 1/2 Year Beta Fish Fisher

Question
Hi I have a Beta fish on my desk here at work and I've had it for 2 1/2 years. Well the past three weeks he hasnt really been moving. He is barely breathing and just floats in one area. He is in a small round fish bowl. He hasnt been eating. He tried to eat but doesnt seem to have enough energy. Risht now his face is at the very top of the bowl like he is trying to get air and the rest of his body is straight down. I put him under my light on my desk like you advised someone else but he seems to be in the same shape. Let me know if you have any suggestions.
Thank You Diana Cimental

Answer
Hi Diana;

Poor Fisher. Look at him closely to see if his gills are inflamed or he has any redness, sores, fungus or anything else abnormal on him. Check his belly for bloating too. Bettas commonly develop constipation in their old age. Here is a web site with good info on betta ailments and their treatment;

He is a pretty old fella now so he may just be at the end of his life I'm afraid. Bettas live to be 2 or 3 years and are already almost a year when you buy them.
