How many times a day should you feed bettas ?

Question
Hi,  I have a betta fish,  his name is sparky.  I usually feed him in the morning and then in the night;  is this too much?  I have a one gallon tank.  Also,  how long should you leave their hood light on and off?  I usaually leave it on for about 6 hours,  and then off the rest of the time.  I am not sure what his ph level is, or the other levels.  Thanks.

Answer
Hi Angela;

Feeding twice a day is fine, just don't feed too much at a time. A betta's stomach is about the size of one of his eyes.

You don't have to worry about pH or any of that stuff. Weekly cleanings will take care of water quality and chemistry as long as you don't overfeed and don't let excess food stay in there. Remove uneaten food right away.

Your light schedule is just fine if it works for you and Sparky. I leave my betta's light on until I go to bed at night. I turn it on when I get up in the morning. "Earl" basically has the same hours that I do and he seems to like it just fine.
