unknown fish

Question
I recently inherited 2 convicts,2 Oscars,2 jack dempseys and an unknown fish to me.The fish is about 8" scale color of a bass but has black spotted markings on it.It is long like a Chubb,but has a very narrow mouth,as well it is very skittish making it hard to get a photo of it.

 Unfortunately, that description could fit thousands of fish species so it is really hard for me to say what the fish is.  Sorry. (A photo would be helpful, if you can get one)
