Question
I've asked you questions before.  I have two small ryukin goldfish in a 29-gallon tank.  I have always hesitated to feed vegies.  You cook them first?  Don't they cloud the water?  Do you leave them whole?  I have fed frozen shelled peas thawed and chopped into small pieces.  I have a food clip to put in the water, but have never used it.  I change the water 25% once a week & vacuuming the gravel, with a l0% water change halfway through the week until I get the new tank nitrates under control.  Thanks, Debbie

Answer
Hi Debbie;

The vegies I cook are carrots, green beans, peas and squash. Cook them slightly but not so they're mushy. Just drop them right in the tank. I feed raw spinach, raw romaine, and raw cucumber slices too. Rinse them and just drop them in. Use the food clip if you want to.

If you don't give the fish so much that they can't eat it all within a day or so, it shouldn't cloud the water. They can nibble on them for several hours. Even if a bit of cloudiness comes about, it will go away in a few hours. Goldfish need to forage and 'graze' and once in awhile it's a little bit messy. Just keep up your water changes and gravel vacuuming and it should be fine. You're doing great!
