live birth fishies

I put one of my platies in a net because her belly looks huge and she was hiding a lot...  but nothing seems to be happening and I don't think she's happy in there.  <:)  How long is fish gestation?  When is it safe to assume that I'm mistaking about her condition (if it even is a "her") and okay to return her to the general platy population?

Hi Pilar,
  There is no magical number because we don't know when she got pregnant.  I'd leave her in there for a week or so and then if nothing happens, return her to the general population.  

  When you say "a net" do you really mean just a net?  You might consider getting a breeder box that goes in the tank.
