How do I know if my male Betta is interested in the female?

23 14:07:09

Question
I have my male betta and female in two separate containers next to each other but they look like they want to attack each other the male is flaring his cheek fins and the female keeps swimming into the container like shes trying to attack him they they stop and stare at each other then he swims away for a few minutes and comes back and they do the same thing. Is he interested or not?? He has not started his bubble nest what does that mean? They have been next to each other for only a day. what do i do next??

Answer
Hi Monica,
Are you sure that your "female" is a female?  Sometimes "females" are just young males who haven't grown longer fins yet. That would explain why the male is attacking the "female".

Definitely do not put them together if the male has not built a bubblenest; if you do, he will likely immediately kill her.
