is my oscar fish dying

Question
I have a 6 inch Oscar.  He keeps loosing his color and turning grey.  I think he is dying.  He still comes up for food twice a day.  His gills were sticking out this morning and I have never seen that.

Answer
Hi Colleen,
The fact that his gills were sticking out suggests that something is wrong with the water.

Are you doing regular water changes?  You should be changing 25% of his water once a week, every week.

Feeding him twice a day is quite a bit.  Most fish are fine on food once a day.  Feeding him so much means that you need to do even more water changes.
