i have had my tank set up for about 9 months now and have reacently done a water change of 60 percent after a gravel clean. my tank is 100 ltr (dont know what that is in gallons) and have three silver sharks, two mollys, two glass cats, bristle nose cat, three plecos, and also this fish that is sick(baught it because i liked it and didnt know what it was called. runninga fluval 3plus witch normal keeps my water clear my tank levels are fine slight change since i done a water change but nothing dramatic. i dont change my water too often as i never knew i had too so will start very soon will only be changing 25 percent as i heard that too much can hurt my little babys. so any ways back to my poorly fish i have treated my tank for fin rot as i had a pleco with what looked like feather fin and that has cleared up but also even before i put this med in i had a catfish that has BIG wight patches on its body im terrified im going to lose her she is so beautyful. its not wight spot im sure and im totaly sure its not cotton like it just looks like some one has spilt tipex all over her stomach and side if you would like to see some pics (not that great tho) please ask and i will find them please help me im stuck and dont know what to do next

Answer
Hi Vicky;

It is really hard to see anything on the picture for sure. It may be a bacterial or fungal infection. I would separate the fish to an isolation tank for treatment. Get a tank or container that is no smaller than 20 liters. You don't want to add medicine to a tank with healthy fish. They don't need it and it will disturb the biological balance. Go to your local fish store and tell them your fish seems to have a fungus or bacterial infection. I don't know what's available in your area but see what they have and go from there. In the USA it is easy to get antibiotics and antifungals for fish but I know in some countries you can't get them without a veterinarian prescription. Make a daily 25% water change in his isolation tank too. It will help him heal faster because it boosts his immune system.

Avoid making such large water changes in the future. It is very hard on the fish. It is best to make a 25% once a week instead of really big ones less often. It will keep water chemistry ad water quality consistent and make a big difference in the vitality of your fish as well as boost their immune systems.
