Answer
Hi Marianne;

He may need an antibiotic. He is a pretty old fella now too. His immune system isn't as strong at his age so he may need warmer water and more frequent water changes to help him fight off the infection.

Get a product called Kanacyn. It is made by Aquatronics. It treats bacterial infections. Usually ulcerated sores are from bacterial infection. The reason I suggest this one is because it gets inside the fish to fight infection. Ulcers often go deeper than you can see on the surface.

Raise the water temperature up very slowly. Bettas really thrive in higher temperatures. Put it in the warmest place in your house that will keep the temperature consistent. About 82 degrees is good. It will also help kill the harmful bacteria that is causing the infection.

Also change his water every week. Fresh water more often will help his immune system. It also will lower the numbers of harmful bacteria and toxins in the water to help avoid re-infection.

Followups welcome
