Whats going on with my beta?

Question
Hi, my beta fish spend his whloe life at the bottom of its tank. He only moves up to get food and goes straight back down. Alot of people have confused him for dead. I dont know if you need the exact temputure or the exact amount of water he lives in. I can send you exact numbers if you need them but I know the vase he lives in is in a room that stays around 64 degrees and theres usualy some left over food floatind around. One side does seem much stronger than the other yet both fins work. Thank You

Answer
Hi Eugene;

Poor guy. His water is far too cold. If there is no heater in his tank the water will be whatever the room is. It is very dangerous for him and he will die soon if it doesn't get warmer.

Start first by changing his water to get rid of the decaying food. Make sure the new water is the same temperature as his old water. You don't ever want to add warmer water. It can easily shock him. Put his tank in a warmer room or put a desk lamp next to it in order to slowly raise the temperature. Get a thermometer so you can monitor it. It needs to be 76 to 82 all the time.
