Betta vs Molly

Question
Hi! Please Help!
I've had a betta fish all by himself in a 10 gallon tank for about a month now. Today I added 2 gold mollies and one Marble Lyretail Molly. The gold one just mind their own business, but the Lyretail keeps pushing his head into my betta's body and tail. He doesn't appear to be biting him, and the betta does not seem to mind it too much, but is this okay? I did a lot of research about what fish can live with a betta, any everyone said mollies were great, and docile, and the woman at the pet store confirmed that. So I'm not sure what I should do.
Thanks!

Answer
Hi Sarah;

It sounds like they are just getting used to each other. They will probably calm down. It helps to provide extra hiding places such as more plants, rocks and other decorations.

You will have a problem in the next few days that you may not know about though. Adding so many fish all at once can cause waste toxins to rise too high and make the fish sick. The beneficial bacteria needs time to compensate for the extra waste. It takes about a week or so. Monitor the ammonia and nitrite levels to see how it's going. You can get kits to test for them at your fish store. If they are elevated you can make a 25% water change every day that you find them up. It will help keep the fish from getting sick while the system balances again.
