rocks in my fish tank

hello i would like to know if its ok to use agates in my fish tank with ciclids i dont want to do it if it could kill them our affect them in the wrong way

Ryan,                                                        They are sharp of course they will harm them. If you have South American cichlids gravel is fine, but if you have Africans I would put them on sand. Sea sand they love to burrow and the sand from the sea or live sand helps keeps the water buffered to an 8.2 ph. They love to chase each other through it and are very comical. Good Luck, Tina
