Betta who cannot eat!

Question
We have had a betta for about a year now.  He has always seemed very healthy, friendly and active.  For a couple of months now, he seems to have problems eating.  We have always feed him one pellet at a time and he would snatch it up, chew and wait for the next.  Now, he tries to snatch it but can't seem to get his mouth open. He will chase it around the top of the water until it finally sinks and then try again for a new one.  Occassionally he does get one, which I guess is why he hasn't starved to death.  He has a tank mate (with a divider) and he seems to be just fine.  Is there something we can do for a poor little hungry Betta??

Answer
Sometimes, Betta's can get picky. His not able to eat could be him just rejecting his food. I would suggest checking out his mouth and seeing if it looks swollen or cottony, sometimes they can get internal infections that will keep them from eating.

You can try getting him some freeze dried blood worms as a treat and see if he has an easier time eating them, or soak his pellets for a bit before giving them to him to see if softening them up helps at all. I do know that you can buy mini pellets for Betta's too.
