Male Betta Fish Odd Oehavior

Question
Hi, Ron.
My girlfriend and I just bought two male Betta fish today. Both are crowntails. They are in a half-gallon tank separated by a divider. I understand that males are aggressive by nature and are very territorial. My girlfriend's Betta is very calm, and just wanders his side of the tank while mine is flaring constantly, swimming around the tank very fast, going up for air very often, and is very aggressive towards the other fish on the other side of the divider. He just does not seem to calm down.

I would just like to know if this is healthy behavior or should the two fish be separated into their own tanks.

Thanks,
Mike

Answer
Hi Mike,
This is okay as long as there is no way for the fish to end up on the same side of the divider.  If that happened, the one fish would very likely kill the other.
