guppies dying

Question
I have had a tank of guppies for many years. They were given to my brother, who is now 60 years old, when he was in grade school. I have had them die off before when they became too numerous but now I seem to be losing the all. The fish are in a 20 gallon tank with an In-tank filter Whisper 40i. Is this the end of the line for them?

Hi Judy,
  Not necessarily.   Are you doing regular weekly partial water changes?  Ideally, you should be changing about 25% of the water once a week, every week.   I strongly suggest that you do some partial water changes for a few days in a row and see if that helps.  Note, this is much better than changing a whole lot of the water at once.
