Do Betta fish sleep.  For the past 3 weeks I have been putting a peice of lettuce in his bowl and now he gets on top of it and appears to be sleeping.  He moves around as soon as I feed him but goes back up on the lettuce leaf and appears to be very soundly sleeping.

Hi Diane,
Bettas need to have very clean water.  It is not recommended to leave lettuce in a bowl.  If your bowl is a 1-2 gallon bowl, his water should be changed twice a week with a good water conditioner.  They do like to rest on silk plants with nice leaves.  You can find a small silk plant at your pet store for a small sum, for the betta to rest on the leaves.
