dieing fish

my tropical fish has just given birth about a week ago n just tonight started acting strange bumping into things and swimming erratically then died!gutted!is it common for fish to die after giving birth?not sure on the breed of fish its like a orange smallish fish with a black tail n fins similar to a goldfish but smaller and more pointed please help!!!

Hi David,
 It sounds like you had a platy (a livebearing fish from Central America).  While it isn't common for females to die during or after giving birth, it is always a possibility (just as it is for any live-bearing animal, including humans).
