QuestionHi there!
I have some questions about buying Ocellaris clownfish.
Would I be able to buy 2 Ocellaris clownfish and have them in a 10 gallon tank?
If so, how does it work mating wise? I wouldn't have room for a bigger tank, so if they mated and laid eggs, I wouldn't be able to keep them do to lack of space. So, can I buy two same gendered Ocellaris clownfish and put them in a 10 gallon salt water fish tank? Also, what kind of accessories would I need? (ie. food, gravel, sand, rocks, etc)
Thank you SO much!
Jason
AnswerHi Jason,
I have not kept clownfish in a long time, but I can tell you the following. You can keep clownfish in a 10 gallon tank. I trust that you are aware that these are saltwater fish and so they need proper saltwater to live.
You needn't worry about them laying eggs. If they do lay eggs, that is wonderful, but it takes very special care to make the babies survive. They are extremely small and require very special food and attention. So, basically, you don't need to worry about your tank filling up with clownfish.
As far as the tank goes, you need a proper filter, sand, and some rocks to create structure and to provide hiding places. You will also need an air supply to put air into the water, typically via an airstone, though some filters also serve this function.
If you have never kept an aquarium, I strongly suggest that you start with freshwater fish before trying your hand at saltwater fish such as clownfish.
