My cockateil keeps eating her eggs.

Question
My cockatiel keeps laying eggs and then eats them, why? This is her second time breeding, she did fine the first time.

Answer
How closely together are you allowing her to have clutches? I only recommend breeding pairs up to two times a year (in the wild they would not breed more often than this, and it takes alot out of them).

It could also be a sign of nutritional deficiencies. What kind of diet is she being fed? Cockatiels should be on a base diet of pellets, with limited amounts of seed, and veggies offered daily. They can also be offered other bird-safe human foods like whole wheat bread, scrambled eggs, etc.

You can read more about diet here:

There is also an article with information on egg-eating and egg-breaking here:

I hope this helps.
