Hi,
hello my name is shirley I brought a pony about 6 weeks ago and in that 6 weeks she has filled out on the sides of her belly, i have seen this in pregnant  cows with the same how can i tell she is a modey type pony any way, i put her with my big boy but hes no longer a stallion and hasn't been for quite some time thanks hoping you can help i can send a pics thanks shirley

Hi Shirley,

Without knowing your pony's history, it's going to be difficult to tell by yourself if she is pregnant.

I wouldn't consider filling out in the sides within a six week time period as a sign that she is pregnant.  She could just be getting more food now than she was before and just putting on weight.  Ponies do tend to get a big belly pretty easily with extra food.

One thing you could do by yourself, would be to feel for movement in her belly.  But you're generally not going to feel the foal moving until they are about 7-8 months along in a pregnancy.

You could speak with the previous owner and ask them if she was ever exposed in any way to a stallion.

Your best bet to find out if your pony is pregnant, would be to have a vet do a palpation exam.
