Question
i have a baby Hermann tortoise, lately he has been sleeping allot, i wake him up to feed him and to play.  his name is Timmy and is about 3 1/4"diameter, he lives inside a 30 gallon low tank with all the trimmings.  it first started that he became finicky with food and now this sleeping thing. I'm very worried, Timmy is very healthy, some people tell me he is hibernating other say he is not the kind to do so.  should i just leave him alone?  i miss him.

Answer
Something may be wrong. Hermanns can hibernate, and do so in some of their range, but not often. It should also not hibernate this time of year unless something is wrong.

Now, baby tortoises sleep- they sleep a lot when things are perfect... but they also sleep when things are weird. What I would suggest is to find a good website with current, high-quality care guidelines, like http://www.tortoisetrust.org or http://www.austinsturtlepage.com and compare their suggestions (diet, temps, etc.) with your cares.

I often find that the glitch is in temps and humidity.

I also am a bit worried about the phrase 'I wake him up to play'. Tortoises are not real big on 'play'. You may want to rethink this as well.
