Peeling ??

i have a three year old tortoise(Hermann) and she has been growing quite a bit.is that ok ? i am more worried that the skin is peeling of her neck. is this normal and ok ? thank you.

Hello Danielle,

It is very usual for tortoises in captivity, to grow too fast since their diet often is either wrong or because it is given too much food. Often, these tortoises got differential "bumps" in the shell, as a result of overweight. To make sure to prevent this, the food should resemble to their natural diet (Grass, flowers and weeds for example). You can also add some extra vitamins, but before you do so, you should probably ask a vet so that the right vitamins is added.

As for the skin, I recommend you to bathe your tortoise (I bathe my tortoise everyday, but basically 2-3 times / week is enough).
That will prevent the skin to get too dry, which I think is the problem here.
