Red-eared slider estivation

22 16:37:49

Question
I have two red-eared sliders. I live in S. Florida, and the turtles live in an outdoor
habitat with a pond and plants.  There is daily shade and a shady underwater
spot, as well.  One of the turtles is estivating, the other is not.  Should we expect
the other to find its own place? How long does estivation typically last? At what
point should I be concerned about the turtle's health/well ebing?

Answer
Red-ears come from many places. Some are more heat-resistant than others. I would carefully examine the estivating turtle to make sure it is OK, and if it is, not worry too much.

This assumes, of course, that it is warm enough to cause it in your zone.
